How to Send Voice Notes on Telegram, Snapchat, Twitter & More
Voice notes work differently on every platform. Here’s a quick guide for the apps not covered elsewhere — Telegram, Snapchat, Twitter/X, Messenger, and even Google Slides.
Telegram Voice Notes
Telegram has the best voice note implementation of any messaging app.
How to Send
- Open any chat
- Hold the microphone icon
- Speak
- Release to send
Video Notes
Hold the camera icon instead for circular video messages — a unique Telegram feature.
Best Features
- No time limit (practically)
- Waveform preview before sending
- Listen at 2x speed
- Works on desktop (Telegram Desktop has full voice note support)
- Scheduled sending
- Self-destructing in Secret Chats
Download Voice Notes
- Tap the voice note
- Tap the three dots
- Tap Save to Downloads or Forward
Telegram is the gold standard for voice notes in messaging apps.
Snapchat Voice Notes
Voice Messages in Chat
- Open a chat
- Hold the phone icon to record
- Release to send
Or hold the microphone in newer versions.
Audio Snaps
You can record audio over a Snap:
- Take a photo/video
- Tap the speaker icon
- Record voice-over
Limitations
- Audio in chat is fleeting (Snapchat’s whole thing)
- Can’t easily save or export
- Quality is compressed
Twitter/X Voice Notes
Twitter added voice tweets (audio in tweets) but it’s limited:
Voice Tweets (Posting)
- Create new tweet
- Look for the wavelength icon (may be under more options)
- Record up to 2:20 per clip
- Tweet it
Note: Not available in DMs. Voice tweets are public posts only.
Voice DMs
Twitter/X doesn’t have voice messages in DMs. Your options:
- Record audio separately and send as attachment
- Use external link (voice note service)
- Send a voice tweet publicly instead
Facebook Messenger Voice Notes
How to Send
- Open a conversation
- Hold the microphone icon (tap + first if hidden)
- Record and release to send
Features
- Plays in chat with waveform
- No strict time limit
- Works on desktop via messenger.com (variable support)
Download Voice Notes
- Click the three dots on the message
- Click Download
- Saves as audio file
Signal Voice Notes
How to Send
- Open a chat
- Hold the microphone icon
- Release to send
Privacy Features
- End-to-end encrypted
- Follows disappearing message settings
- No server-side storage after delivery
Signal voice notes are basic but private.
Google Slides Voice Notes
Want to add voice to a presentation? Google Slides doesn’t have direct recording, but you can add audio:
Method 1: Insert Audio File
- Record audio separately (Voice Memos, Recorder app)
- Upload audio to Google Drive
- In Slides: Insert → Audio
- Select the file from Drive
- Position the audio icon on your slide
Method 2: Screen Recording
Record yourself presenting with audio, then embed the video.
Method 3: Narration Apps
Use add-ons like AudioPlayer for Slides or Pear Deck for easier voice integration.
Speaker Notes
For presenter reference (not audience playback):
- Type notes in the Speaker Notes section below each slide
- These appear only to presenter, not in presentation

Every app has different voice note features, limits, and quirks. Some work on desktop, some don't. Some let you export, most don't.
We built a browser extension that works everywhere. Click, record, get a shareable link. Post it on Twitter, send it in Telegram, paste it in a Google Doc.
One recording method. Every platform. No more learning each app's voice note system.
Plus, it saves context about where you recorded. No more mystery audio files.

Which app has the best voice notes?
Telegram. It has unlimited length, desktop support, playback speed control, easy export, and works reliably. WhatsApp is second — good features but no desktop recording and 30-minute limit.
Can you send voice notes in Twitter DMs?
No, Twitter/X doesn't support voice messages in DMs. Voice tweets are public posts only. You'd need to record separately and share a link for private voice messages.
How do you add voice notes to Google Slides?
Record audio separately, upload to Google Drive, then Insert → Audio in Slides. There's no direct recording feature built into Slides.
How do you download voice notes from Messenger?
Click the three dots on the voice message, then Download. The audio file saves to your device. This works on desktop Messenger.
Voice notes vary wildly between platforms. Telegram leads the pack, while Twitter barely participates. For consistent voice notes across all platforms, external tools that generate shareable links beat learning each app’s system.
